How To Exfoliate Your Face

Exfoliation dates back centuries and is a great way to achieve soft, supple and smooth skin. It helps stimulate circulation and inspired the popular non-surgical procedure known as microdermabrasion.

Here’s how to exfoliate your face in a simple, methodical way:

Wash your face

Firstly, wash your face thoroughly with warm water as this will open your pores and get rid of any surface dirt. Use a clean flannel to gently wipe over your eyes and make sure you’ve removed any makeup. Avoid using soap at this point and make sure the sink is clear so you don’t splash bacteria over your face.

Use exfoliating gel

With your face still wet, apply exfoliating gel to a sponge or loafer and rub your face in small circles. The small abrasives will help get rid of dead skin cells and the gentle massage will boost your circulation. Work up a decent lather and ensure you’ve scrubbed every inch of your face as this will help to unblock pores. Don’t press too hard near your eyes as the skin here is thinner and needs to be protected.

Rinse your face thoroughly using tepid water and let all the grease, oil and dirt drain away. Make sure the water’s not too hot as it’s important to protect any fresh skin cells that you’ve exposed. Make sure all the bubbles are off your face before patting it dry with a clean towel. It’s important not to use a hand towel that’s been lying around for ages as you’ll transfer germs back into your clean pores – and that’s never good.

Apply a moisturiser

Once your face is dry, apply a decent moisturiser as this will keep your face feeling smooth. Avoid greasy products as these will block your pores and use a product appropriate for dry, oily, sensitive or normal skin (depending on what you have). Admire your face in the mirror and you should notice that your complexion’s looking much more radiant.

Repeat the process regularly and you’re sure to enjoy a much smoother, clearer complexion. Take the time to scrub your whole body in the bath and you’ll be on your way to a better physical appearance.
